Mark 8:15-17 (NLT)
“As they were crossing the lake, Jesus warned them, “Watch out! Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and of Herod.” At this they began to argue with each other because they hadn’t brought any bread. Jesus knew what they were saying, so he said, “Why are you arguing about having no bread? Don’t you know or understand even yet? Are your hearts too hard to take it in?”
The Holy Spirit warns us to beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and of Herod. Who is your Pharisee/Herod? What is their yeast?
Could your Pharisee be your Ex-boyfriend, Ex-husband, past friend, family member, or co-worker? What is their yeast? Their yeast will tempt to bring you to their side. They have already been exposed as going against the Holy Spirit and Word of God. Will their yeast draw you back in?
- Will the text draw you back in?
- Will the phone call draw you back in?
- Will the promises draw you back in?
- Will the past draw you back in?
- Will their visit draw you back in?
The Disciples argued with each other about simple stuff.. Stuff like bread. As if! Jesus literally just fed 4,000 and 5,000 people a while ago. Why would they worry about bread?
What simple stuff are you sweating?
- What will you do when you are alone?
- Maybe this is all I will ever get?
- Will you ever be happy? The yeast says…”Look at how happy you were?… But were you?
The Holy Spirit is saying “remember when I took them away. I showed you who they were and that they weren’t apart of your future. Remember how I took care of your heart. Remember how free you were not worrying about the text, call, hurt, and failed promises. Remember the love and connection you felt with the Holy Spirit when you were no longer unequally yoked?”
Is your heart now hardened to the truth? Why are you arguing with yourself about what has already been shown to you? He’s already shown you how free you can be! He’s already shown you how it feels to have that weight lifted!
Don’t be confused with the message. The message is the same. Beware of the yeast! You were already shown who they were and how great the Holy Spirit can make life when you walk in His path. Don’t be deceived! Soften your heart to understand.
What don’t you understand? It’s pretty clear…..
